A hair receiver was a decorative container, typically made of porcelain or glass, that sat on a woman's dressing table from the Victorian era until the mid-20th century. It featured a hole in the lid, through which loose hair collected from brushes and combs was tucked away. This collected hair was then reused for various purposes, including stuffing "hair rats" to add volume to hairstyles, creating small decorative items like pincushions, or even in some cases, for making hair art and jewelry.
